OUR STORY
After careers in health care and manufacturing that took our founders, Awatief and Ben to many parts of the world, they longed to establish community roots, reconnect with nature and share this connection in a meaningful way. After searching for the perfect location to encompass all these values, they chose Salt Spring Island for its clean air, pure water, and outstanding natural beauty. Here, Lavender & Black was created in 2016.
We invite you to visit our farm, experience the natural setting, and also meet our sweet dog Hana... also known as the official Lavender & Black greeter! |
OUR PRODUCTS
We strongly believe in the power of choosing organic, natural ingredients - especially when it comes to your lifestyle and health. Our sustainable products are created from our farm grown lavender & immortelle, plus sustainably wild harvested island botanicals such as lichen, moss, bark and berries. Together with carefully selected ingredients from around the world, we hand craft essential oils, aromatherapy blends, elixirs and fragrances to aid in sleep health, vitality, skin care and overall wellness.

OUR FARMLavender & Black is a contemporary lavender farm located on the North End of Salt Spring Island. Nestled between mature fir, arbutus and maple trees, the farm maintains its Pacific Northwest feel with stunning views of Stuart Channel. Here, we grow organically certified helichrysum and lavender, with varieties of these Mediterranean plants carefully chosen for their health and wellness benefits. Our plantings are heavily influenced by the native terroir, enhancing their botanical properties, while making for a uniquely beautiful farm experience. Planted along a southwest facing ridge, a stroll along a gently sloping path lets you experience a farm co-existing with nature.

Our Environmental CommitmentWe use natural farming practices. Our farm has been carefully designed to sit within the existing treed landscape - maintaining islands of wildlife habitat helping cool the soil to preserve moisture during our dry summers.
We also have Pollinator Steward Certification. We work to provide & enhance habitat within the farm as well as educate visitors about the importance of pollinators to the health of native flora & fauna and our food supply. |
