The Story of Lavender & Black Botanical Perfumes

Lavender & Black Botanical Perfumes began 10 years ago – with a desire to create fragrances connected to landscapes – shunning synthetics for real botanical ingredients.  That single aspiration spawned a journey – to learn the art and science of natural perfumery, and to study the herbal, medicinal, and fragrance properties of plants.  We are guided on this less travelled road by our principles of:

Inspiration comes first from the FOREST, FARM & SEA of our island.  The dark, mossy, coniferous scents of the temperate rainforest; the herbaceous, floral, and sometimes curious aromatics grown on our farm; and the wild, fresh, and slightly animalic scents of the seacoast.

By design, and necessity, we are small batch makers.  Our perfumes are crafted to be unique – not just to be different from commercial brands, but also to connect you with special places in nature.  Gathered at each plants aromatic peak, our small annual harvests produce a limited amount of perfume each year.

Natural ingredients respond to annual variations in temperature, hours of sun and rainfall.  In this way, our botanical perfumes mirror fine wines – each year its own vintage with subtle individuality.  

Today, we continue to explore unique botanicals from our island and around the world - while refining our craft of fashioning unique perfumes.  All to share the beauty of place with you.
